Wash Day - Rollerset

Beautysets - Rollerset (1)

How cool are these beauty sets?
They sent me an email telling me to check out their site, you can make these pretty looking posters, check them out!

My washday was pretty much the same as usual, I did deep condition over night but instead of using my matrix deep conditioner (I've ran out), I used the creme of nature argan oil intensive conditioning treatment, this is the third time I have used this product, but it's been my first time using it as a deep conditioner, (for the previous times I used it as a pre-poo), but I love this stuff!
If your someone who loves a lot of slip, it's for you!

So I deep conditioned over night,
Shampooed with Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Shampoo
Did a 5 minute treatment with Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Daily Treatment
Then Rinsed with cool water.

I let my hair dry under a t-shirt for about 5 minutes, and parted my hair in 4 sections which I applied my leaves in, and proceeded to rollerset. This time I made sure I stayed under the dryer for at least 1.5 hours and I am pretty pleased with the results!

The Battle of the Metal Clips - Follow Up Post

Sunday 25 November 2012

Today I used these clips to do my rollerset, and I don't have good news.
If you look on the clip where I have placed the circle, there is a small bar. Now this creates a problem when your trying to push the clip along your scalp because your hair gets in the way, does this make sense?

As opposed to a regular curl clip (pictured below) which will just have just the fork ends, this makes it easy for the clip to slide through your hair and grip onto the roller, but the roller pictured above has that small bar which doesn't enable to clip to slide through the hair.

I did manage to use the clips but it was very awkward to use, and in some parts I just returned to my old clips. *SIGHHHH* this is soo annoying!
I don't understand why the people who made the clips but that stupid bar there, so the search continues, until then I think I will just put with these clips until I find the one I'm after, Im tempted to cut the little bar off but I don't know what I'd use to do that with.

Just Thought I would let you guys know.

Bad Hair Week

My bad hair week literally started on my wash day (last week sunday)!
I did everything as normal, but for some reason I decided I only wanted to dry my rollerset for an hour (shakes head). Now I know that it takes over an hour and a half for my hair to be completely dry, so why I took it upon myself to come out the dryer so early I don't know,
this here ladies is an example of knowing what works but ignoring it! (DONT DO IT!)
Anyway I shall show you pictures of my fail rollerset below...

LOL I'm actually ashamed of myself, so I thought OK lets try and save this mess, so I put rollers in my head and slept in them over night.

When I woke up in the morning I wasn't too pleased with the results so I threw my hair in a bun and went about my day

So if my fail of a rollerset wasn't enough, I got caught in the rain without an umbrella!
I was drenched!!! My hair was soaking, it literally looked like I had a shower in my clothes.

As soon as I got home I hoped in the shower and did a quick cowash,
then did a braidout over night

I took out the braids and put my hair back into a bun

What a week!
Tell me about your bad hair days or week! haha

The Battle of the Clips

Thursday 22 November 2012

Following on from my previous post about the metal clips, I went with my gut and ordered them and boy was I surprised.
These clips are perfect!!

I love the way the clips came packaged too!
Nice little box with a lid that flips open

The clip on the top is the metal clips I usually use for my rollersets, and the one on the bottom are the new ones I brought. Notice how the bottom clip has all that extra room, this will allow the clip to fit securely inside the roller.

                                                     New Clip                                                 Old Clip

My previous point is easily illustrated here, do you see how with the new clip, nothing is sticking out, whereas with the old clip you have the whole head which sits outside the roller.
This may cause problems when trying to secure rollers
when you are running out of space on your head.

This picture here is just showing you both clips inside one roller.

My Verdict?
I have yet to use the new clips for a rollerset (I just got them in the post today),
but I can tell they are going to reduce the hassle I normally experience when rollersetting.

I think I will use my new clips for rollersetting duties, and
my old clips are for when I relax my hair.

Hope this was helpful!
For those who may be wondering
I brought the clips from amazon
If I recall correctly they were £5.59 with delivery included.

EDIT: My Verdict has changed, please read this NEW post

Metal Clips For Rollersetting

Friday 16 November 2012

I have been trying to find metal clips that fit inside the roller, for when I do rollersets.
I know these clips are readily available in the US, but over here in the UK they are much harder to find, however I think I have found some, I just want someone to confirm these will do the job?
Here are the ones I have come across, what do you think? all responses are welcome!
Thanks in advance

For those wondering why I want these particular clips for when I rollerset I shall explain why.
Having clips that fit inside the roller, makes the roller fit more securely to your hair, and it also takes up less room around your hair, so you are more freely able to fit rollers on your head, and it might actually make the experience more comfortable, I for one have experienced MINOR pain trying to fit all rollers securely on my head.
hope that helps

Review: Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Line

Thursday 15 November 2012

I have always envied how smooth Jens (JustGrowAlready) hair looks, and after stalking her blog and looking what products she uses I noticed Jen mentioned the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny line.
Boy am I happy that I stalked Jens blog because this stuff is the truth!

I purchased the super skinny take home kit from lookfantastic
for £12.30 you get 100ml of the shampoo and treatment and 25ml of the serum

Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Shampoo
I'm not really a shampoo person, and by that I mean I have never really used a shampoo and felt amazed, so if a shampoo doesn't leave my hair feeling stripped, then I'm happy.
I felt like this shampoo was just OK, I don't think I will purchasing the full size shampoo.

Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Daily Treatment
This stuff is the bomb.com,  after leaving it on for a few minutes in the shower I did notice a major improvement in the feel of my hair, my new growth and texlaxed textures felt so smooth and tangle free, I was so impressed.
After my small bottle runs out, it will definitely be repurchased.

Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum
I LOVE this serum, it makes detangling a breeze and my rollersets now always come out perfect, the first time I used this product when I did a rollerset I was speechless. Might I add a little definitely goes a long way with this.
Jen I see why you use these products! I am hooked!!

Just a few pictures below of rollersets I did using the serum

I Straighted! - Wash Day

Monday 12 November 2012

I've decided to be naughty and straighten my hair this wash day so that means I need to give my hair the full works!
I decided to do a pre-poo with creme of nature argan oil intensive conditioner pack
I applied this to damp hair (sprayed water onto my hair) and went under the dryer for 30 minutes
then I shampooed with Paul Mitchell super skinny shampoo
then I deep conditioned over night with my mix:
Matrix conditioning balm
Roux porosity control
Affirm sustenance fortifying treatment (not always included)
JBCO
and left this on over night
The next day I rinsed out the mixture and applied Paul Mitchell super skinny treatment for 5 minutes washed that out, then did a final rinse with cool water.

I used a t-shirt to soak up the excess water, then applied my leave ins:
Paul Mitchell Moisture Mist
Chi Keratin Mist
Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum
Nioxin Thermal Bliss

I left my hair to air dry still it was about 70% dry, then I lightly blow dried my hair in sections, then straightened!
For those who might be wondering, I have the FHI take the heat iron, and I set the temperature to 190°C.

(blow dried)

I'm very pleased with my results, I have soft flowing hair, and I definitely notice an improvement not only in the in the length but also the health of my hair.

Braid Out! - HOTD

Friday 9 November 2012

I love doing Hair of the day posts, I should do them more often, but I always forget to grab my camera.
Today I wore my braid out down,
but I made sure to give my ends a good coating with coconut oil to lessen potential damage

I Gave My Friend A Rollerset (Pics)

So my friend Naomi (Hey Nai), has officially started her hair journey (yay!!), she expressed to me previously how she didn't like the results of her rollersets, so to help her out I decided it would be a nice idea to do her wash day and end it with a rollerset.

I basically used all the products I would use on my wash day and see how they would work on her hair,
I decided to deep condition on dry hair using Matrix Conditioning Balm + Roux porosity control + coconut oil, I put her under the dryer for 30 mins.
I then shampooed her hair with paul mitchell super skinny shampoo and followed that with paul mitchell super skinny daily treatment and did a final rinse with cold water.
I will be doing a review on the paul mitchell super skinny line, watch out for that

For leave ins I used
paul mitchell moisture moist
chi keratin mist
paul mitchell super skinny relaxing serum

This was her hair before

During

... and after!!!
I think her hair came out pretty well!
It felt very soft and moisturised, amazing how we achieved such great results after one wash day, can you imagine how her hair will progress if she maintains a healthy regimen?

Have you managed to get any of your friends into a hair journey?
